In view of Baselworld 2017 that’s coming up next month, we’re on the look out for outstanding preview pieces and collections by timepiece brands that will be exhibiting. The 2016 line up included names like Omega, Bell & Ross, Rolex, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Tudor, Tissot, Patek Philippe and Hermès. Taking a look at this year’s Baselworld preview, we zoom in on the Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent collection.
Partnering once again with Italia Independent and the brand’s Founder and Artistic Director Lapo Elkann, Hublot will present a beautiful, bespoke range of 45mm timekeepers. While the previous collaborations featured Hublot’s Big Bang Unico pieces, this year, the Hublot Classic Fusion models enjoy a creative spin. Fabric is chosen specially from the House of Rubinacci — a bespoke institution of style and masculine refinement helmed by three generations (Gennaro, Mariano and Luca Rubinacci).
Amidst more than 60,000 sqm of superb textiles, Hublot and Lapo Elkann discovered a collection of tartans from the 70’s which they decided to use for the Classic Fusion chronographs. One of our favourite pieces from the collection is the Classic Fusion Chronograph Italia Independent King Gold ‘Tartan’ — second piece from the right as pictured above. The 45mm case is of a satin-finished, polished 18K King Gold, while the dial features authentic fabric from a Rubinacci Tartan suit and black counters. The hands and index are polished with ruthenium plating and the 13.05mm thick piece is water resistant up to 5 ATM.
Another piece that caught our eye is the Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent Ceramic ‘Prince de Galles’. Its dial and straps are made from an authentic Rubinacci ‘Prince of Wales’ suit while a satin-finish polished black ceramic is used for the case and bezel. The gorgeous piece is completed with a polished black ceramic crown and back case, while it is 13.05mm thick and water resistant up to 5 ATM.
