The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi is set to open to guests this October 2017, but we were already given a preview of this lush beach resort set in Teluk Nibung, a mere 10-minute drive away from the Langkawi International Airport.
Guests making their way to the resort will be pleasantly surprised to find traditional Malay style houses steeped in luxury. Inspired by the kampung houses that you would find in the nearby villages in the island, The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi was designed by Philippe Villeroux from Tropical Area Architects, a Kuala Lumpur-based architectural firm. Amongst the design features with a nod towards the traditional Malay designs include the large windows, gabled roofs, and intricate designs reminiscent of what you would find in a traditional Malay kampung.
You will be spoiled for room choices at The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi with over 75 guest rooms, 15 suites, and 29 villas in the resort with varying views of either the surrounding jungle, or a panoramic view of the sea. Indulge your senses at The Ritz-Carlton Spa as well, with its beautifully interesting design of cocoon-shaped pavilions floating over the sea, resembling the Malay bubu — woven fish traps that have been used by local fishermen for centuries.
If all that we’ve mentioned have yet to entice you to book a suite at The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi for your next staycation, here are five more reasons to convince you.
Can’t stay still even when you’re relaxing at one of the most luxurious beach resorts in Malaysia? Then you’ll be glad to know that The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi offers a wide range of fitness activities, including an outdoor tennis court, a fully-equipped gym and an infinity pool, as well as indoor and outdoor yoga with a view of the rainforest. There are also water activities available such as deep sea fishing or a sailing adventure. The on-site private cove also provides direct access to the island’s famed diving sites, for diving enthusiasts.
But there’s no black magic involved, fret not. At The Ritz-Carlton Spa in Langkawi, Spa Rituals are infused with traditional local elements. Inspired by the indigenous healing and beauty ceremonies practiced by local shamans in Langkawi for the past thousands of years, your spa experience will be unlike any other. Expect a sensory adventure through a time in a traditional Malay era.
At times, adults just need time away from the kids. For that, there’s Horizon, an adults-only bar with an amazing view of the sea. The bar is perched above a natural rock with Thai influences (a nod towards the island’s proximity to the country) in its design. Sip on unusual wines and enjoy a romantic sunset view while the kids are far, far away.
Sometimes all you need is a little break from your kids. For that, there’s the Ritz Kids program which includes a curated selection of locally-inspired activities, so that the kids not only have fun, but also learn about the local island culture. Activities include painting the wau, a traditional Malay kite, a Langkawi Treasure Hunt to find hidden treasures in the beach, and embarking on a Nature Discovery tour.
The Villa Mutiara is the largest villa available at The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi measuring 650 square metres. The villa has three large bedrooms with king sized beds and has an occupancy up to eight adults. Other than a spacious indoor and outdoor living area, you’ll also get two private swimming pools and direct access to your own private beach. Bring your nearest and dearest, and enjoy the exclusive amenities the Villa Mutiara provides.
