Little trinket shops and upscale buildings with British colonial influences make up the scenes of the three-hour drive from the airport. The journey to the estate continues to vistas of beach houses and guest lodges dotting the streets of Galle. As you immerse in what Sri Lanka has to offer, the ride ends in front of a tall white wall with wooden dates.
“You’ve arrived at The Tanamera Estate,” utters the amiable driver.
The Tanamera Estate is located in a quaint fishing village of Talpe, the countryside of Galle and it is immensely rich in culture and heritage. When the doors to the property open, you’re immediately greeted with the expansive scenery of the Indian Ocean. The Tanamera Estate is located right by the beach, facing the third largest of the world’s oceanic divisions, with an unobstructed sweeping view.
The Tanamera Estate is an exquisite beach-fronting private residence, with three en-suite bedrooms that could sleep up to six people comfortably. Two of them are king-sized bedrooms that face the magnificent ocean view, while the other (with two super single beds) opens up to the verdant garden. The interiors of these rooms are different but they still give out humble Sri Lankan warmth, delighting the occupants with a sense of home even if they’ve travelled thousands of miles away from their country. In either room — you’ll be waking up to the sounds of the ocean with the rising sun gently bathing the interiors in natural light.
The whole residence, including the separate dining and lounge area, is designed to emulate traditional Sri Lankan architecture; with high ceilings, full-length folding doors, tall pillars, archways and verandas. The spaces are decorated with antiques and rustic furniture, and even down to the bedding and cloth used in the entire residence — they are all made in Sri Lanka. We’re not just talking about how Instagrammable this place is (even we couldn’t resist taking a couple of pictures), the whole residence is a luxurious sanctuary.
During your stay, there is staff on standby 24-7 to ensure your stay at the Tanamera Estate is as comfortable and relaxing as it can be. Private local chefs are at your service. Personalised menus can be catered according to your preferences, and they will use fresh and locally sourced ingredients to show you the true flavours of Sri Lanka.
Choose to stay in and relax or out exploring this quaint fishing village. Located nearby are the Galle Fort and Virgin White Tea Plantation that are both located about 10 minutes away via car from the property. You can even choose to fully immerse in the countryside by going on a guided bicycle tour through paddy fields, tea plantations and bird sanctuaries.
As Sri Lanka is called the “Island of Gems”, we see the reason why and it’s not just because of their highly acclaimed coloured gemstones. This private property sits in a small but homely fishing village that is rich in culture and what nature has to offer. The people also helped make our stay more enjoyable. You have the clearest view of the untouched ocean, specifically just 110m of direct ocean frontage, attentive staff to make sure you’re comfortable throughout your stay, spacious and tasteful rooms — what more could you ask for? This little sanctuary could be your home away from home, with your friends and loved ones but with a Sri Lankan hospitality and flair.
