Could the future of social distancing travel lie in a well-spaced, villas-only resort like The PuYun Hotel & Spa in Moganshan, China?

Urban Resort Concepts (URC), the group behind luxury and design-centric hotels including The RuMa Hotel & Residences have recently announced the future opening of a new property in Moganshan, China: The PuYun Hotel & Spa. Slated to open its doors to guests in 2022, this 80-key luxury resort will be situated within the idyllic and unspoiled mountains of Moganshan.

The PuYun Hotel & Spa is scheduled to open in 2022.

The resort will be 45km northeast of Hangzhou and 130km southwest of Shanghai, so expect that you will be far from the hustle and bustle of city life. Moganshan has long been the favourite cool and idyllic escape for Shanghai’s elites and their families since the 1800s, even being known locally as the Hamptons of China. Views of the bamboo forest, tea plantations, serene lakes, and mountain landscape are what draws people here. Once the pandemic eases, we’re certain that this is the sort of travel that most will be looking for — far from the crowd.

Other than the 80 villas on the property, The PuYun Hotel & Spa will also boast the group’s UR Spa, which includes a yoga pavilion, two swimming pools, and a fitness centre. Within the resort are also two restaurants that will showcase gastronomic innovations (not unlike Atas Modern Malaysian Eatery), a lobby lounge that shows off the locality’s history, and spaces that cater to both guests on holiday and on business retreats. Did we mention that the signature URC’s 24-hour check-in and check-out service will also be present at The PuYun Hotel & Spa?

Naturally, the resort’s design will be nothing short of remarkable. Taking on the job is renowned British architect Sir David Chipperfield, whose major works include the Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach, Germany, Neues Museum in Berlin, and more. For The PuYun Hotel & Spa, he will be lending his simplicity and clarity of design that will celebrate the natural setting of Moganshan.
