This August, Marriott International — the world’s largest and most eclectic hotelier — brings its acclaimed W Hotels brand to Malaysia with the arrival of W Kuala Lumpur. This highly anticipated property combines the characteristic W flair (e.g. contemporary interiors and dynamic lifestyle programming) with a vibrant pace and rhythm unique to Malaysia’s capital city.

      Jungle City Beats

Famous for its spirited cultural diversity, year-round sunshine and lush greenery, Kuala Lumpur is referred to by many KL-ites simply as the “Jungle City”. All across the CBD, a rich and verdant tapestry of foliage is interwoven with myriad skyscrapers: a metaphor for modern Kuala Lumpur’s combination of tropic splendour and burgeoning cosmopolitanism. Already the 6th most visited city on the planet, KL’s dynamism and ever growing audience of luxury travellers made it the ideal candidate for the first W property in Malaysia. “[KL] is one of the most modern cities in Asia. Its zeal for what’s new makes it a welcome destination for the W brand,” said Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Leader of W Hotels. “We’re blown away by how the city is moving towards the future while maintaining its traditional and cultural roots, and that’s what we want to embody at W Kuala Lumpur.”

Situated across from KL’s iconic Petronas Twin Towers, W Kuala Lumpur’s exterior adroitly reflects W Hotels’ ethos of simultaneously embracing the traditional and cutting edge. Thanks to design that confidently mixes LED fixtures, long sweeping lines and tinted glass W Kuala Lumpur’s façade shimmers with all the pageantry of the future whilst maintaining its proximity to sites of historic and cultural significance. (Merdeka Square for example — the inaugural location at which the Malayan flag was first flown in 1957 — is within earshot.)

The hotel’s futuristic façade is juxtaposed with interiors which nod towards a heritage-inspired decorative style. The hotel’s “Living Room” (W’s take on the traditional lobby area) charts an almost topographic aesthetic: where “plateaus” of reception desks and bed like chandeliers are juxtaposed against a waterfall of ever-pulsating LED lights — evocative of the rapid pace of life in KL. Metal accents are punctuated by traditional batik patterns while historic Malayan building materials (e.g. bamboo) find their way into communal fixtures like lighting and chandeliers. Unifying both private and communal spaces of the hotel is the pixel graphic: a recurrent artistic motif (in wallpaper, LED screens and furnishings) that symbolises the convergence at W Kuala Lumpur of both city and jungle.

      A W Welcome

Featuring 150 guest rooms spread over 8 unique categories — including the 520-square-metre “Extreme WOW” suite — W Kuala Lumpur presents no shortage of options for guests looking to bed down. All rooms echo W Kuala Lumpur’s Jungle City narrative, pairing signature W Hotels amenities (e.g. BlissⓇ toiletries and premium coffee & tea) with uniquely local touches such as beaded miniature chandeliers and the aforementioned pixel graphic. The latter is especially evocative of the W brand worldwide — mixing tech, art and trend for a daring interior look.

At W Kuala Lumpur, there’s something for everyone. The “Spectacular” room category is ideally suited to seasoned luxury travellers: anchored around breathtaking floor-to-ceiling views of the nearby Petronas Twin Towers. Featuring an oversized Ottoman and the W’s signature king sized bedding, this room category’s layout makes it ideal for a family of three or romantic duo of two.

For guests who crave a more relaxing form of escapism, W Kuala Lumpur’s AWAYⓇ Spa is a welcome complement to the hotel’s eclectic private spaces. Equipped with the latest vitality pools, chroma-therapy and tropical showers, guest can experience a combination of W Hotels’ signature massage treatments along side mani and pedicure services (courtesy of elite local salon, the Beauty Bar by 176 Avenue).

Eclectic food & drink, the W way

With the arrival of W Kuala Lumpur comes the brand’s creative and contemporary approach to local cuisine. KL’s world-famous trifecta of Malaysian, Chinese and Indian culinary traditions provides ample inspiration for the hotel’s six dining venues. At YEN, diners are treated to regal surrounds and Cantonese cuisine redefined — featuring a wide selection of the freshest seafood from Malaysia and abroad. Those hungry for convenient and eclectic international cuisine can satisfy their cravings at FLOCK: W Kuala Lumpur’s chic all-day dining venue, where Western fare sits alongside an elevated take on local KL classics. In the tradition of all W Hotels, WOOBAR is the place to mingle over inventive small plates and craft cocktails; and last — but definitely not least — the hotel’s WETⓇ Deck pool bar promises to be KL’s newest social hotspot, where refreshing libations are served against the backdrop of the ever-present Petronas Twin Towers.

In addition, W Kuala Lumpur shall be adding to its conventional lineup of restaurants with an additional two more experiential venues: SAINT PIERRE, serving Michelin starred haute cuisine; and WICKED, KL’s newest and most exclusive nightlife destination.

      Haven’t you heard the rumours?

To celebrate the arrival of its flagship Malaysian property, W Hotels Worldwide invites guests to experience W Kuala Lumpur at exclusive rates starting from MYR 850 (offer available until 31 December 2018, subject to availability). For more information and bookings, visit here.
