We’ve transcended the era of an all matte complexion into one that celebrates dewy-looking skin. As evinced by how highlighters took the beauty world by storm in 2016, we’re anticipating the love for a fresh, glowy complexion to carry on into the new year.

Though highlighting your face is a way to get your shine on, it’s not the most ideal for days where you want to dash out the house with the bare minimum on. Primers are a way to make your complexion fresher without having to layer on base products. Using a dewy primer also works extremely well for those with drier skin, or if you prefer more Korean and Japanese makeup styles that concentrate on a naturally fresh complexion.

We’ve weeded out the five best primers to get skin like a K-drama star fresh out of a chemical peel.

Becca First Light Priming Filter

Becca’s First Light Priming Filter is the popular Backlight Priming Filter’s latest sister. It’s a shimmery purple liquid primer that instantly livens dull skin. It neutralises sallowness, and provides a smooth base for foundation to go over. While the finish gives you a glow-from-within radiance, it doesn’t necessarily improve the longevity of your makeup. Layer it above your holy grail primer for optimum results if you’re going heavy duty.

To be available at Sephora.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

This is an ideal primer for those with dry skin and larger pores. It’s a silicone-based formula that applies to almost a powdery finish, subtly brightening the skin. The longevity for this Veil Mineral primer is top tier, as it helps your base last all day. One small gripe is that it lacks oil control, so this might not be one for you if you have an oilier complexion.

Available at Sephora.

Sulwhasoo Luminature Essential Finisher

The Sulwhasoo Luminature Essential Finisher is a moisturising primer that enhances your natural complexion, by giving a soft radiance to the skin. It’s not a significant change in your complexion though, making it perfect for those with oilier complexions. This primer doubles down on your makeup lasting power too.

Available at all Sulwhasoo boutiques.

Pixi Glow Mist

This is an extremely light hydrating mist that is formulated with 13 different natural oils for an immediate boost to the complexion. This is a fantastic product to use if you enjoy wearing minimal makeup, or want to counteract dehydrated skin before you apply your base. Just spritz and you’re good to go.

Available at Sephora

NARS Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 15

The Pro-Prime Light Optimizing primer adds a vibrant, rose gold sheen to the face, which sounds rather intimidating. Apply it to the skin, and you get more of an illuminating effect thanks to the pearlised pigments. Another plus: it doesn’t accentuate your oilier or hyper-pigmented areas. This is best for days when you’re going for light coverage or no base makeup, as the sheen diminishes once you apply thicker foundation.
