11 new beauty launches we love this March 2021

Now that the dust of Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day have settled, there’s finally time to stop and smell the flowers.

For us, March is a month centred on wellness, but it’s not all work and no play. Besides the serious stuff like yoga, meditation, and workouts, we’re also making a commitment to taking better care of our skin. Thankfully, this month sees a bumper crop of skincare products that’ll do just that.

For those who can’t seem to keep out of the sun, there’s a whole slew of anti-pigmentation options that you’ll want to incorporate into your routine, stat. Those who want to venture beyond regular brands can look to cult J-beauty products at Osakakuma, while those seeking new scents have two new options to invigorate their daily routine with. Makeup aficionados will also enjoy the adorable collaboration by a certain fashion house and a well-known beauty emporium.

Here are all our favourite beauty launches in March 2021.

Another month, another fruity addition to your vanity table by Glow Recipe. This time, the K-Beauty brand tackles hydration with a hyaluronic acid serum that harnesses the antioxidant power of plums (three types, in fact: Kakadu, Illawarra, and Burdekin) to rejuvenate and nourish your skin from within. Five different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid enable absorption deep within the layers of the skin, while vegan collagen and silk protein strengthen the skin’s barrier against free radical damage. This lightweight serum is perfect for those who want to tackle fine lines and wrinkles. For better efficacy, pair with the brand’s Pineapple-C Bright Serum.

Ask any dermatologist or skincare enthusiast around about the best antioxidant serum you can buy, and we dare bet it’ll be Skinceuticals’ C E Ferulic Acid. The only problem was that its moisturising vitamin E ingredient was too heavy for those with oily, acne-prone skin. For those, the brand has formulated the Silymarin CF, its first new antioxidant serum in nearly a decade that’s suitable for those battling both blemishes and photoaging.

Besides 15 percent l-ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C) and 0.5 percent ferulic acid, the serum also contains silymarin, a powerful plant-based antioxidant derived from milk thistle that helps prevent oil oxidation and protection against free radicals. Together with salicylic acid, the serum exfoliates while repairing skin from within.

Infused with illuminating oils to help reveal a naturally vibrant glow and wild pansy extract for hydration, Dior’s first primer already looks set to be a bestseller. Besides keeping your makeup in place for up to 24 hours, it’s also packed with UVA and UVB filters to protect your skin from both harmful sun rays and blue light from LED screens, leaving you with a better complexion in the long run. The non-comedogenic formula is lightweight, and makes for the perfect precursor to the brand’s new Cushion Powder (an on-the-go finishing powder) and Perfect Fix (a hydrating setting spray that hydrates and refreshes the complexion all day).

Developed by perfumer Christine Nagel, H24 is the embodiment of the contemporary man, as seen by Hermès. The result is contrasting scents that intrigue and surprise; the fresh fragrance begins with top notes of clary sage and narcissus, before developing into an invigorating rosewood. The green and earthy fragrance culminates with notes of sclarene, a masculine, metallic scent reminiscent of hot iron. As the Maison’s first men’s fragrance in 15 years, the H24 is delightfully exploration of unconventionality, nature, and technology.

For those who enjoy a revealing LBD but are always conscious of acne-ridden or dull skin, there’s always Body Sauce. This silky, lightweight body tint —available in seven shades for most skin tones — promises enough coverage to blur and even out skin imperfections and blemishes while imparting a subtle shimmer for a healthy-looking glow. Babassu Oil and Vitamin E also work to nourish and reduce free radical damage caused by UV rays.

Harnessing the clarifying properties of tea tree, this new moisturiser by Dr.Jart+ targets any new and existing spots while balancing the skin’s pH levels to prevent future breakouts. The non-comedogenic formula is made with tea tree leaf extract from Australia, along with tea tree leaf oil and aloe vera to control sebum levels while calming irritated skin. The anti-bacterial moisturiser is a natural alternative to benzoyl, and can be used with the cleansing foam and toner from the same line to battle maskne.

Unless you spend every waking hour underground, chances are you’re in the market for pigmentation. For those prone to dark spots, Kiehl’s has a targeted dark spot corrector that’s formulated with Activated C — a powerful antioxidant that evens skin tone and protects skin cells from damaging free radicals caused by UV exposure. White Birch and peony extracts also hydrate while increasing the efficacy of the vitamin, leaving you with clearer and brighter skin. The brand’s limited edition jumbo-sized iteration sees whimsical artwork by Lyon-based illustrator Maïté Franchi.

Formulated to revive both dull and pigmented skin, this lightweight serum is akin to an oxygen shot to the skin, with rose-myrtle and acerola seed extract that help skin cells increase their oxygenation power by up to 14 percent. The latter is also reputed for its high vitamin C content, which, alongside other brightening plant extracts help lighten dark spots for even, flawless-looking skin. For maximum efficacy, use with the other products in this new line like the Night Mask-Gel, which reinvigorates and plumps up the skin through the night.

One of Japan’s best kept beauty secrets, The Ginza is the most premium and sought-after range from Japanese beauty giant Shiseido. If you’re familiar with the brand, you’d know that it’s currently only available in two stores in Japan, but it’s finally also available at Osakakuma PLQ here. This lightweight, high-performance moisturizer is to be applied with a cotton pad and promises to dramatically improve skin’s radiance while adjusting its oil moisture balance essential to healthy skin, leaving you with a dewy radiance.

Penhaligon’s fascinating — and often, scandalous — members of its Portrait series have spun a compelling tale over the years, weaving English establishment, humour, and provocation into the mix. Today, William Penhaligon — founder of the famed British perfumery — finally joins the mansion, and he’s every bit the gentleman you’d expect. The Inimitable William Penhaligon is an oriental woody fragrance that’s majestic, stimulating, and chic, with strong notes of vetiver (one of his master ingredients) that are interspersed with bergamot and jasmine. Warm, smoky hints of cedar and incense take over next, before transitioning into a comforting finish of sandalwood and Ambroxan.

Easily the cutest launch in the beauty realm this month, the Coach x Sephora Collection sees seven make-up products that perfectly encapsulate both the iconic fashion house and renowned beauty emporium’s whimsicality and playfulness. You’ll recognise some very familiar faces here; Coach’s Rexy the dinosaur, Sharky the shark, and Uni the unicorn find themselves on everything from mascot eyeshadow palettes (S$80 each) that double up as bag charms to a glittery brush set (S$120) with wearable rings.
