Can’t believe we’re saying this, but it’s already October.
If you’re feeling the anxiety of an under-utilised year kick in, you’re not alone. Thankfully, the world’s gradually reopening and things are starting to look up again, which comes just in time for the legion of new beauty products the month has to offer.
Whether you’re looking to impress during Zoom calls with a fresh face, or want to spruce up for a night out after-work with new palettes and fragrances, this month is chockfull of new beauty products that will tide you through the rest of the year — or at least until we roll out November’s best.
Here are the best new beauty products in October to shop for.
Foreo might’ve changed the facial cleansing game when it first introduced its range of silicone face brushes, but the innovation didn’t end there for the Swedish beauty company. In understanding that everyone’s skin is different, the Luna Fofo was created with advanced skin sensors that analyse your skin’s moisture levels in each zone, before preparing a personalised cleansing routine that’s unique to your skin’s condition.
Its algorithm also uses AI and machine learning to create customised facial cleansing routines to best suit you. To track your skin’s condition, the device also uses bluetooth to send reports to an app on your smartphone.
Created with the message of embracing and expressing one’s authentic self, the new Marc Jacobs Perfect is a fragrance we could all get behind right now. The eau de parfum is a comforting floral scent that celebrates optimism and self-love, opening with juicy notes of rhubarb and bright daffodil before revealing homely hints of almond milk. The unconventional fragrance culminates with soft hints of cedar wood and cashmeran.
Marc Jacobs Perfect will be available at Metro from 1 October, in Sephora in-stores and online from 6 October, and at all other major department stores from 8 October.
Following a buzzy collaboration with Supreme, makeup maestro Pat McGrath continues her streak with the Holiday 2020 collection. Besides crystal lip kits, matte lipsticks and a luxurious highlighter, the collection also includes Mthrship Mega, an 18-colour eye palette that consists of new and re-issued archive shades. This is McGrath’s biggest palette to date, and will undoubtedly create endless looks with its generous mix of both matte and shimmery finishes.
Can we all agree that achieving a no-makeup-makeup look is a lot harder than it should be? For days when you want to let your skin shine through, Becca’s Zero No Pigment Virtual Foundation is a hyaluronic acid-infused formula that gives your skin a smoothed out, transparent matte finish.
The gel-like formula cools on contact with the skin and provides all-day oil control and hydration to keep your skin looking effortlessly flawless, especially for those incessant Zoom calls. If you’re keen on a little bit of shine the Zero Face + Lip Glass Highlighter from the same series lends a glass-like glow without the sticky feel.
With the discovery of its star patented ingredient Viniferine — a grapevine-derived sap — Caudalie revolutionised the beauty industry with the Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, a natural brightening solution that harnesses the powerful brightening effect of grapes. This year, the holy grail product (one is sold every 30 seconds globally) celebrates 15 years of anti-dark spot effectiveness with a limited edition version, housed in a glass bottle that’s subtly stamped with grapes and vine leaves.
If you’ve been torn between which eye issue to address for your next eye serum, Kiehl’s latest makes it infinitely easier by targeting all woes within this nifty bottle. Specially formulated for the delicate eye area, this serum is formulated with 10 percent pure vitamin C, tri-peptide, and hyaluronic acid to not only minimise puffiness and hydrate, but also reduce dark eye circles — both the brown and blue types. The lightweight serum also reduces fine lines around the eyes, which checks off just about every under eye woe we could possibly want to be rid of.
Pair this with the Super Multi-Corrective Cream, an advanced moisturizer formulated to target fine lines and wrinkles, loss of elasticity and uneven skin tone and texture.
If you’ve been breaking out, this might just be a godsend. Amongst Derma Lab’s many new launches, this one caught our eye for being a potent mix of two percent salicylic acid — famed for exfoliating and sloughing off dead skin cells within pores — and Centella Asiatica extract and vitamin C, both of which help troubled skin heal by accelerating the skin’s natural repair process and lightening acne marks.
The latest brand to hit Sephora’s shelves is actually a touching tale of how Mario Dedivanovic managed to go from a Sephora salesperson 20 years ago to becoming one of the most influential makeup artists in the world. His eponymous brand bridges the gap between pro artist and regular person, with thoughtfully edited products that are uncomplicated and easy to use, but also luxuriously formulated. His eyeshadow palette, for example, sees 12 neutral matte shades that are foolproof, blend like a dream and have minimal fallout, with each shade specially curated to work for any skin tone.
No one knows ginseng like Sulwhasoo. This year, the Korean beauty brand continues to demonstrate its know-how with the Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Serum, a resilience-boosting formula that harnesses proprietary ingredients like Ginsenisphere and Compound K to deliver all the benefits of the ancient herb straight into the skin. Ginsenisphere, for example, delivers ginseng seed oil to skin through soft capsules, while Compound K is an antioxidant-rich compound extracted from Korean red ginseng that protects the skin against signs of ageing.
It’s been a long time coming, but Porcelain has finally formulated its very own eye care product. The lightweight blend includes Matrixyl for collagen production and Biophytex to strengthen capillaries and improve circulation around the eyes, so expect lighter dark circles, reduced puffiness and lesser fine lines. It also acts as an eye primer or eyeshadow base, which saves you an extra step in the morning.
