If there’s one word you’ve probably heard again and again over the last decade, it’s ‘podcast’. But what exactly is a podcast? For those new to the concept, podcasts are a series of audio files available online, with most set up like a TV or radio show (with some featuring special guests), presented in seasons or episodes focusing on different topics.

Since the success of Serial (an investigative journalism podcast) in 2014, which attracted listeners the likes of supermodel Tyra Banks and Ross Duffer (writer and producer of Netflix series Stranger Things), podcasts have increased in popularity. This is especially so with an endless list of benefits from listening to productivity podcasts.

Perhaps the most obvious one is how accessible podcasts are.  There is a variety of apps you can use to subscribe to the series you like, such as Overcast, Pocket Casts, and even Spotify. The content can also be synced across all your devices, such as phones, iPad and desktop. And unlike ebooks, you don’t have to keep your eyes glued to your mobile device. You can simply stream the episode and listen to it while doing chores or driving to work.

Whether you’re trying to make the most use of your time or become a master of networking, check out these productivity podcasts to listen to on your morning commute to work — especially when you need advice on dominating your to-do lists, maximising your time, or being a better leader.

After all, Dalai Lama once said, “When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.”
