This week’s hottest topic was undoubtedly #Rendangate. It was so controversial that we felt compelled to publish a public service announcement beseeching non-Asians to stop defining Asian food to Asians (by an Asian, in case there was any doubt.)

In other non-food related matters, this weekend marks the end of Uber’s era in the Southeast Asian region. Will you be taking one last ride to commemorate the many times the service has ferried you from point to point? We definitely will be. Its acquisitor, Grab, won’t be having an easy time, however. Indonesia’s Go-Jek has announced plans to expand its ride-hailing service in Singapore. While there won’t be the motorbike versions, we can expect some fierce competition from our neighbours for dominion over the streets.

Also, if you have made plans to head to Boracay anytime soon, you might want to hold them off. The island has been scheduled to close for six months from 26 April in an effort to restore its ecological state. Not to worry, though. We’ve curated a list of interesting art exhibitions and events for you to attend this month.

For all your other weekend reads, here are this week’s best stories from the team at Lifestyle Asia Singapore.
