This weekend sees festivals happening all over the globe. Closer to home we have Songkran, the Thai New Year. An estimated four million revellers are expected to travel to Thailand to partake in the celebration that starts today and ends Sunday, 15 April. Playful fights with water guns and jets will be commonplace on the streets under the scorching Thai sun.

Coachella is the other major jamboree happening this weekend. The annual music and arts festival is considered a “mecca” of sorts for millennials. This year’s lineup includes headliners The Weeknd, Beyoncé, and Eminem. No prizes for guessing what your Instagram feed is going to be filled with for the next few days: Flower crowns and the ubiquitous Ferris wheel.

Next week, while technically not a festival, is the Salone del Mobile, the highlight of Milan Design Week. The yearly trade fair will play host to hundreds of thousands of vistors, from veterans in the industry to couples furnishing their new homes. If you’re in the city then, make sure to check out Google’s debut exhibition there.

If you’re staying home like us, fret not: Here are this week’s best stories to tide you over.
