This month, we’re seeing new establishments on board that seek to craft a gastronomical journey across the world, right on our island home.

From Japanese and Korean restaurants serving up plates of carefully curated dishes to bars across the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas bursting with excitement, read on for all the new bars and restaurants to dine at this April.

Transport yourself to Japan with Fukui, a new omakase restaurant along Mohamed Sultan Road. The modern space finds itself led by sisters Eugenia and Emilia Tan, both of whom have had years of service experience in various industries, alongside veteran Head Chef Nick Pa’an. Here, diners can feast on seasonal, ever-changing dishes in the lighter six-course lunch (S$88++), or pounce on the chance to indulge in a decadent, thirteen-course dinner ($338++). Apart from deftly cut slices of fresh sashimi, standouts from the menu included a lip-smacking negitoro, made with minced tuna, uni and pops of rice balls, delicately handed to you on chef’s own hands.

Anju, translated to mean “food eaten with alcohol” in English, sees itself as the latest contender in Singapore’s competitive dining arena. The smart Korean restaurant is led by chef Gi Deok Kim, formerly of the now-defunct Kimme. From interesting drinks like the naturally carbonated Champagne Makgeolli (traditional Korean rice wine) to more familiar flavours such as the Galbi jjim, we reckon Anju the new kid on the block that’s worthing keeping an eye out for.

If there’s anything we love more than sake, it’s having said sake with plates of mouthwatering dishes. From the same folks behind Kabuke comes Tanoke, a sake bar nestled in Bugis. Here, pamper yourself a selection of over 50 sake labels, including seasonal favourites if you’re a truly discerning drinker. As for the food, feast on premium Japanese ingredients spun into dishes like the otoro aburi handroll and the Hamachi Carpaccio.

Looking to dine during lunch? Tanoke has some mean offerings for their Weekday Lunch Sets, including a rice bowl that’s served with your choice of beef, an onsen Egg as well as add-ons like the foie gras teriyaki, uni and ikura.

La Boca Bistro Bar is bringing some of that blazing Cuban sunshine to Singapore with its cocktails and bites. Apart from a killer Jungle Juice that’s sure to leave you inebriated by the time you’re done, diners can also dig into sharing portions of the rich seafood stew, a rich medley of squid, prawns, mussels, soft-shelled crab served with some crispy focaccia on the side.

Il Lido presents a new establishment to their mix of bars and restaurants, this time in the form of a rooftop bar nestled in the heart of Tanjong Pagar. Set amidst a gorgeous city skyline, diners can sip on Mediterranean-inspired cocktail concoctions such as the Greece with Greek Forest, a spirit-forward blend of honeycomb-infused tsipouro, mountain pine liqueur and maglini lemon, or Athena’s Olive Branch, crafted with Gin Mare, Madeira and olive air that’s punctuated with the unmistakable aroma of floregano.

Feeling peckish? The journey down the Mediterranean seas continue with plates of crispy Whitebait Fish Fries, Sumac and Harissa Yogurt and heartier dishes like the Beef Kofta Sliders, Eggplant Fritter and Green Chilli Shatta.
