In Good Taste: The Knolls, Loof and COO Bistro

The whole of October is Vegetarian Awareness Month. But not all of us have the discipline and dedication to stick to a meatless diet — which explains why this week’s edition of In Good Taste features some decidedly diet-busting offerings.

Ranging from a Bak Chor Mee (minced meat noodles) grilled cheese sandwich to a milky Iberico ham velouté and a platter stacked with roasted pork, these 3 dishes are every reason not to #eatclean.

Iberico Bone Velouté at The Knolls

The Knolls Capella Singapore Alain Llorca Iberico Bone Velouté Highres
Savour this velouté of Iberico ham and seafood at The Knolls.

The Dish: With its mouthwatering combination of razor shells, whelks and silky Iberico ham immersed in a white velouté sauce (a mix of butter and cream), this signature dish by guest chef Alain Llorca of one-Michelin-starred Restaurant Alain Llorca in Nice sure packs a flavourful punch. It’s one of the offerings on Llorca’s four-course lunch menu, which is available from 5 to 8 October, 2016.

The Place: Situated in Capella Singapore, The Knolls is an elegant seafront restaurant focusing on Mediterranean cuisine. From 5 to 9 October, Llorca will be present to serve up lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch menus.

Price: S$78++ for a four-course set lunch

BCM Grilled Cheese by Loof

Grilled cheese just got a lot more tempting.

The Dish: This super sinful concoction at Loof marries two comfort foods together: Grilled cheese and Bak Chor Mee (minced meat noodles). It comprises sourdough bread crammed with gooey cheese, juicy pork mince and mushrooms — absolutely worth breaking all your diet rules for.

The Place: Loof is a laid-back, alfresco bar perched atop the roof of Odeon Towers. It recently enlisted “dude food”-advocate Bjorn Shen (who runs restaurants Artichoke and Bird Bird) to help develop its new menu. The result is a tempting repertoire of local and Asian-inflected bar grub.

Price: S$18

Tiong Bahru Platter by COO Bistro

Why eat clean when you can devour this platter of meaty goodness?

The Dish: Perfect for sharing, this decadent platter features grilled chicken with homemade satay sauce, salt and pepper barramundi and succulent pork belly — which has been slow-cooked and roasted till crisp. A side of crunchy mackerel keropok adds a final indulgent touch to this delicious dish.

The Place: COO Bistro is a casual eatery located inside the newly opened COO hostel in Tiong Bahru. Its menu offers an eclectic mix of local and Western fare, with options such as prawn noodles, pulled pork burger, mentaiko capellini and fried rice.

Price: S$28
