November is finally here, and with it comes a handful of anticipated openings in our local bar scene. Intriguing concepts have surfaced around the city, including the likes of a hip-hop and R&B concept opening in Zouk this week, an all rosé and gin al fresco bar located in Ann Siang House, as well as a sister bar to The Other Room that centres on tea-infused spirits. Read on for the lowdown on where to enjoy a drink or two this month.

The Other Roof

The Other Roof is the sophomore venture of Dario Knox, the man behind hidden bar The Other Room. Parked on the rooftop of Ann Siang House, this sprawling space is a shrine to tea-infused spirits — over 300 different expressions, to be specific. The backbone of the menu is the union between afternoon tea and cocktail hour, so expect alcoholic drinks designed around tea blends created by Knox and his team as companions for the arresting view. Kamil Foltan is a household name in Singapore’s cocktail field, having been behind the bar at renowned joints like Tippling Club, Potato Head and the Black Swan. The Indigenous Bartender is Foltan’s independent project, started with his partner Zurina Bryant. The Indigenous Bartender began as a pop-up concept where locavorism is rooted in the cocktails they make, and the response has been so successful that Foltan and Bryant have opened a physical space along North Bridge Road to showcase their creations. IB HQ is an intimate 30-seater space that allows guests to dive into the full spectrum of what the duo can offer. Come with an open mind and welcome flavourful surprises.

Zouk moves to encapsulate the eras of hip-hop with its new bar, Queens, opening soon on the second floor of the mega-club. Named Queens in homage to the iconic borough, the bar teases to a musical repertoire that will kindle your nostalgia and an equally inspired cocktail menu. Stay tuned for more news, as the bar is slated to open at the end of this week.

A slice of contemporary Shanghai becomes superimposed on Telok Ayer Street with the arrival of Eliza, a new lounge that blends Chinese glamour with old-school cocktail culture. The drinks menu is divided in two, with half paying tribute to classics like the French 75 and Brandy Crusta, and the other flaunting signature cocktails created by bartender Sam Wong. To cement the atmosphere, live jazz musicians will rework pop music covers early in the evening, segueing into nu-disco hits once night falls.
