Singapore wins big at Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2017

Asia’s 50 Best Bars was announced yesterday, and Singapore proves to remain a top contender for drinks around the region. Our thriving cocktail culture is a telling enough sign, but 13 local bars earning themselves a spot on the list makes for a bold confirmation.

With a revamped menu, Manhattan Bar can do no wrong.

Manhattan takes the number one spot, rising from fifth place last year, and usurping last year’s reigning champion, 28 HongKong Street. The latter ranks at fourth place this time round. Close behind is conceptual speakeasy, Operation Dagger at number six. All three bars also qualified for last year’s World’s 50 Best Bars List, ranking at 11, 14 and 21 respectively.

Other usual suspects include Tippling Club at number 11, Gibson at 14, Jigger & Pony at 21, D.Bespoke at 29, and rum bar Sugarhall at 38.

Atlas — beautiful interior, and cocktails that pull their weight.

There are also five new entrants to the list this year. Newcomer Atlas didn’t just hit the local bar scene in all its Art Deco grandeur; it won the region’s favour too and the number 12 slot. Employees’ Only and Native, two Amoy Street residents, bagged 17 and 20. Well deserved, we say.

Ann Siang Hill’s longtime jewel, Nutmeg & Clove scored number 30, adding some true blue Singaporean flair to the list with its cocktails inspired by local history. The last newbie is hidden bar, The Other Room, which closes off the Singapore crown at 35.

The only bar that lost its placement is Anti:Dote, which bagged number 43 last year.
