For the past few years, the results of the Asia’s 50 Best Bars award have been a source of pride for the Singapore bar industry. Last year, local establishments topped the continent with 13 bars securing themselves a spot on the prestigious awards list, with Manhattan ranked as the best bar in Asia. Two others, 28 HongKong Street and Operation Dagger, were also placed in the top 10, coming in at number four and six, respectively.
Today, it was announced that Asia’s 50 Best Bars will host its first-ever, physical awards ceremony in Singapore since its genesis in 2002. A press statement cites our city as a natural choice, given the prevalence of world-class cocktail bars around the island, as well as the presence of numerous initiatives, such as Singapore Cocktail Festival, that drive the drinks industry here forward.
To be held at the Capitol Theatre on 3 May, the occasion will be attended by Asia’s most distinguished bartenders, owners, industry professionals and members of international press. #50BestTalks, an invite-only forum to discuss the bartending industry, will be held the next day on 4 May, as part of the upcoming Singapore Cocktail Festival.
Though Singapore may be but a spot on the Asian map, news like this reinforces our status as leaders in the regional food and beverage economy — a fact that any local can assuredly vouch for. As we say, “Don’t play play.”
