It’s ZoukOut weekend, which means one of two things: either you’re getting high by the beach (on alcohol and responsibly, mind you) or just going about your usual weekend business. Here’s the ticket: with such a massive gathering happening on one end of Singapore, it’s the opportune moment to relish in the relative emptiness of bars in other parts of the island. Three cheers to no jostling with drunken teens!

That aside, it’s the time of the year that’s particularly ripe for parties. Even if it’s Monday to Thursday, it’s easy enough to cast a stone and hit a bar with new Christmas cocktails, bottles, and other inanimate enablers. If you can afford to hang back in the coming week, here’s our pick of the latest places to drink in Singapore.

1
A Very Asian Christmas

Watch five local bartenders pit their recipes against each other in the spirit of festivity at A Very Asian Christmas. Paper Lantern Distillery’s Thai-made Sichuan Pepper Gin is the spirit of the night, and will be reworked by representatives from NATIVE, 28 HongKong Street, Ah Sam’s Cold Drink Stall and more. Visitors are welcome to sample locally-inspired cocktails crafted specially for the event while marvelling at the wonders of spiced gin. Have your stomach lining ready.

AVAC will be held at NATIVE, 52A Amoy Street, S069878. 6pm onwards.

2
Monti

Multi-concept F&B spaces have been on the rise this year, with Italian joint Monti being the latest to join the hype train. Located at Fullerton Pavilion, Monti offers breathtaking views of the Singapore river and skyline as you imbibe on decadent food and drinks throughout the evening. After a meal and a couple of cocktails, shirk your inhibitions at the dance floor with the resident DJs. There’s also an al fresco and rooftop space should you prefer to party outdoors.

Monti is located at 82 Collyer Quay, Fullerton Pavilion S049327.

Kilo Lounge is back

Since Kilo Lounge got booted from its Kampong Bugis locale, the local nightlife scene was devoid of a haunt that meshed funk music, local DJs and a laidback vibe. Good news: the club is back again at a more central location, this time with a wider array of international music. Don’t fear the loss of their signature spirit though, it’s still the same Kilo from Kallang.

Kilo Lounge is located at 21 Tanjong Pagar Road, S088444.

New menu at The Library

The team behind this speakeasy along Keong Saik Road presents an overhauled drink menu, with the drinks segmented into three different categories – Strong & Dangerous, Sexy & Tropical, and Crazy & Sophisticated. Its lineup of inventive cocktails include the herbaceous Pineapple Monk and the passionfruit-wasabi flavour bomb, What’s Abi. After a round of drinks, indulge in the bar’s new food menu inspired by street food such as 2-minute noodles, beef cheek bao, char siew spring rolls, kimchi hot dogs, and kaya toast ice cream.

The Library is located at 47 Keong Saik Road S089151.

5
Smoke & Mirrors

Rooftop bar Smoke & Mirrors have released two special Christmas drinks inspired by classic yuletide flavours. The Mulled Ole Merry is a sweet and spicy port-based mulled wine with a hint of peach, while Just Gettin’ Started is a fizzy cocktail with Monkey Shoulder whisky and Amaro Montenegro liqueur. As it starts to feel a lot like Christmas, grab yourself one or the other and unwind as you bask in the sky-high view.

Smoke & Mirrors is located at #06-01 National Gallery, 1 St Andrew’s Road S178957.
