The cup overflows when it comes to Singapore’s nightlife hotspots where one can bring a date, so finding the right romantic bars to go to might be tough pickings. Ideally, the right spot needs to have a great ambience, your poison of choice (whether cocktails, beers, or beyond) done well, decent bar bites and a unique concept that’ll make the night one to remember.
In the interest of celebrating love, we’ve listed our pick of Singapore’s most romantic bars to bring your date for the special evening. A good date is the gateway for a better night to come, after all.
With its stunning interior alone, Atlas gets a big tick in the romantic bar category, but the venue goes above and beyond to fulfil your date night criteria with its extensive list of cocktails, gins and champagnes to go with a dining menu lined with mod-European cuisine. Read our full review here.
Bringing your date to a rooftop bar is a classic romance manoeuvre. Level 33 pairs house-brewed craft beers with European gastronomy, spelling stellar views with a laidback, pretence-free concept you can both unwind at. If beer is not your thing, we have more rooftop bars for you, click here.
If Wong Kar Wai’s In The Mood For Love collided into a modern Singaporean bar, Sum Yi Tai would be the result. It’s all Cantonese-inspired with a heady dose of whimsy at this multi-concept joint from the food to the cocktails. The real crowning jewel is the private rooftop bar, which requires special access granted via email — an extra step well worth the effort to impress your date.
While Boat Quay is not a prime destination for romances that last more than one night, the inclusion of the Barbary Coast Ballroom into the nightlife district is where the exception happens. This cocktail lounge is inspired by the madams that ran the famous ballrooms of Barbary Coast, this bar is replete with comfortable alcoves full of velvet furnishings, including two that house “press for champagne” buttons that send your order for a bottle right to the bar. You don’t even have to break the conversation with your date. Apart from champagne, there are creative cocktails and impressive cheeseboards to end your night with (including plant-based cheeses, because nothing says romance like thoughtfulness). Andaz Hotel’s rooftop bar is the setting of a love story, period. You have all the elements: skyscraper views of a busy city centre, mood lighting, small tents where you and your partner can hide away with your cocktails, the stretch of the night sky above. Book a spot there for pre-dinner drinks and stay for the sunset. It’s something else.
Origin Bar + Grill is Shangri-La Hotel’s main restaurant and cocktail bar, giving you the chance to spend date night all in one destination. At the restaurant, grilled meats reign supreme, and at the bar, you get to explore the flavours of Singapore’s plantation history through carefully crafted cocktails. If mixed drinks aren’t your thing, then embark on a rum discovery journey at the bar, which showcases Asia’s largest rum collection, alongside its own house rums.
If your idea of a romantic time is found at the bottom of a well-made cocktail’s glass, then make your way over to Gibson. This fixture on the Asia’s Best Bars list has a menu that spotlights Asian flavours in their libations, taking inventiveness a step further with housemade spirits. Visiting Gibson also gives you the chance to explore its sister concepts in the same building, like the Japanese-style bar, Live Twice, and seafood bistro, Humpback.
Not everyone has the luxury of heading abroad for a romantic sojourn, so find the middle ground at Idlewild, a cocktail bar inspired by the golden age of travel. Cocktails that take cues from famous destinations — London, Paris, Dublin — line the menu, served with small bites that keep to the same theme. Live bands play over the weekends too, with modern jazz being the primary genre. Read our full review here.
D.Bespoke is known as one of the top cocktail institutions in Singapore, and while it is great for dates, its sister destination, RPM by D.Bespoke, is where we love to go for some serious brownie points on date night. Combining a massive vinyl collection with soju, shochu, and cocktails, this is a haven for everyone who loves music as much as they like to drink.
One of Asia’s leading cocktail destinations is also the prime place to go on dates if you want to prove you’ve got good taste. Cocktails inspired by the eras of New York accompany a lengthy list of American spirits at Manhattan, so there’s plenty to pore over on the liquid front. The decor is swish yet relaxed so you’ll feel at ease throughout the evening, made better with the excellent service on-site.
