Apple has joined the red revolution. The tech giant yesterday announced its latest iPhone release. And no, it’s not the iPhone 8. It’s the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus –painted a crimson red.
Featuring a red aluminium finish, the new PRODUCT(RED) iPhone is part of Apple’s partnership with (RED) — an AIDS awareness initiative who has worked with brands such as Vespa, Belvedere, and Beats by Dr Dre, among others. What better way to commemorate more than 10 years of partnership between Apple and (RED) than a vibrant red iPhone, right?
The special edition iPhone joins Apple’s current (PRODUCT)RED lineup, which include the full iPod line of products, the Beats Solo 3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones, Beats Pill+ Portable Speaker, the iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case, as well as a range of accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The products are available for purchase year-round.
“Apple is the world’s largest corporate donor to the Global Fund, contributing more than $130 million as part of its partnership with (RED),” said Deborah Dugan, (RED)’s CEO. “Combining the global reach of the world’s most loved smartphone with our efforts to provide access to life-saving ARV medication in sub-Saharan Africa, customers now have a remarkable opportunity to make a difference and contribute to the Global Fund through the purchase of this new beautiful (PRODUCT)RED iPhone.”
One hundred percent of all money raised by (RED) goes directly to the Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants that provide testing, counselling, treatment and prevention programs — focusing on eliminating transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies. Since its conception in 2006, (RED) has generated more than S$652 million for the Global Fund, with more than S$182 million from Apple alone.
The special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone will be available to order online worldwide and in stores from Friday, March 24.
