2019 saw the beginning of the ‘foldable phone” era, and Huawei is no different. It launched its first 5G foldable phone, the Huawei Mate X, in late February last year. This year, it’s bringing its new and improved sister, the Huawei Mate Xs to the game.

“We are thrilled to launch the Huawei Mate Xs in Singapore. It is the ultimate product of Huawei’s mission to present an unparalleled user experience with powerful 5G connectivity and cutting edge design,” said Phil Xu, Managing Director of Huawei Consumer Business Group Singapore.

What’s so new about this?

In a nutshell, the Huawei Mate Xs builds on the Mate X, with stronger, more powerful SoC and unique mechanical hinge design.

The improved version comes with a refined version of the Falcon Wing Design for its foldable feature. It features more than 100 interlocking parts, which minimises the crease on the unfolded screen, delivering a seamless viewing experience.

The upgraded model will also see an upgrade in the phone’s SoC: It comes with a Kirin 990 5G chipset, which includes an integrated 5G modem. Glaraphics processing is handled by the 16-core Mali-G76 GPU, the most powerful GPU on Huawei handsets. This means an enhancement of image quality on the screen, making them sharper to provide users with the most immersive viewing experience possible.

In terms of its camera specifications, the Mate Xs is identical to the Mate X, with a Lecia Quad Camera that features the 40MP SuperSensing Wide camera, 16MP Ultra-Wide camera, 8MP Telephoto camera and 3D Depth Sensing camera.

How much is it, and where can I get my hands on this?

The Huawei Mate Xs in Interstellar Blue is retailing at S$3,788 islandwide in all Huawei Concept stores, selected M1 and Starhub shops as well other consumer electronic stores from today onwards. Official online stores in Lazada and Shopee will also stock the Mate Xs.

Butterfingers need not worry, as customers are entitled to a one-year warranty coverage within the first year of purchase, as well as a one-time screen replacement with 50 percent of fees waived.

Christmas may be nine months away, but Huawei’s spirit of gifting is coming early this year. With every purchase of the Huawei Mate Xs, customers will receive a free Huawei envelope leather case (S$238) and a pair of Huawei Freebuds 3 (S$238), while stocks last.
