Modern Victorian interior design elements to luxe up any home

Velvet, tufting and fringed pieces are some of the key anchor points of Modern Victorian interior. In traditional Victorian-styled homes, these pieces are found excessively in the home — from couches to lamps to tables and beds, every piece seamlessly incorporates at least one of these aesthetics. They are reminiscent of speakeasies in the 1950s, and can come off tacky in this modern age. For a modern touch, limit yourself to only one or two of such pieces in the room. They are great for those with higher ceilings as they make the room look bigger too. Traditionally, statement walls in Victorian styles were soft, elegant wallpapers, but these days, darker, moodier tones make up the general aesthetic of the Modern Victorian design.

Modern Victorian designs feature colour tone layering, and the main idea is to use only one or two colours in a room and then using different tones of it throughout the entire room. This concept should not be used with a variety of patterns in the room, as it can come across as chaotic and messy. Moving along the Victorian spectrum generally suggests the use of darker, richer solid colours, but a modern spin would mean sticking to neutrals.
