The annual Salone del Mobile furniture fair is known to be the nexus of Milan Design Week. One of the most prestigious design trade fairs in the world, the exhibition showcases the latest in furniture and design from countries all around the globe, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
In its 57th edition this year, Salone del Mobile aims to embrace the city of Milan by weaving itself into the living fabric of the city from 17 to 22 April, taking over exhibition spaces such as a Grade-II listed building (which has been preserved due its special architectural or historical background) in Milan’s Brera Design District.

Italian furniture brand Natuzzi will present its new furniture collection designed by world-renowned Dutch designer Marcel Wanders. Wanders’ inaugural collection for the brand is inspired by Puglian landscapes, and will feature vivid depictions of its rural and coastal charms — such as oak forests, olive groves and the Adriatic Sea.

A collaboration between Tokyo-based design studio Nendo and Copenhagen-based manufacturer Fritz Hansen, the N01 dining chair is a perfect meeting of Japanese and Danish design sensibilities. The piece features a gently curved seat and back panel crafted in nine layers of veneer while the frame, with a subtle incline that embraces the body, is made from solid wood.

Tech giant Google will be making its Salone del Mobile debut this year. This comes two years after the launch of its first range of hardware products, which was followed by its second suite released last year. The brand will be showcasing its hardware in an immersive multi-room installation curated by Dutch trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort inside at the Rossana Orlandi gallery.

Known for his inventive designs, Lee Broom is a longstanding exhibitor at the annual furniture fair. This year, he’s back at it again with his new collection, Observatory, which he described as his ‘most progressive body of work to date.’ It is the first of a three-phase launch of his new lighting collections for 2018. The seven designs will be presented in a 250-square-metre gallery space inside a Grade-II listed building in Milan’s Brera Design District.

Wohabeing, the homeware brand by Singapore-based architecture studio Woha, will be showcasing its Bintan collection produced by Portuguese furniture manufacturer Wewood. The range is named after the tropical island off the coast of Singapore — featuring moulded plywood furniture upholstered with colourful patterned fabrics. Additionally, Wohabeing’s Ulu Collection, inspired by Uluwatu in Bali, will also be showcased at the international trade fair.

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, European furniture brand Sé will be debuting its new collection with Switzerland-based designer Ini Archibong, Below the Heavens. This continues the brand’s founding principles of partnering with like-minded designers to create elegant yet expressive pieces. The collection includes sculptural and handcrafted furniture that references the threshold between heaven and earth, using glass, marble and brass to depict themes drawn from mythology and spirituality.
