Candles are a great way to add character to your home, even better when it’s from an independent maker. The past few years have seen an increase in artisanal candles, with art markets and smaller-scale boutiques stocking those from Singapore labels. This is especially so as more consumers now are hungry for locally-designed and homegrown brands.
Unlike mass-produced candles from international brands, every artisanal candle is hand-poured and made from sustainable materials such as natural soy wax; a healthier alternative to paraffin wax as it gives a significantly cleaner burn, lasting up to 50 per cent longer. The attention to detail goes down to the material of the wick — which can range from natural lead-free cotton to authentic wooden wicks.
If you don’t know where to start, check out these artisanal candles from local brands which make perfect gifts for someone you care about, or even to light up your home.
