After launching the limited edition Apple Watch NikeLab in April this year, it seems the sportswear and tech giants are trading Pantone cards for their latest collaborative effort.
Because both companies pride themselves on form, they will not accept any excuses to be exercising in mismatched attire, and so it was decided that the latest batch of Apple’s smartwatch bands will each come in a matching colour as the upcoming Nike Air VaporMax Flyknit “Day to Night” collection.
Launched on 26 March 2017 in commemoration of Air Max Day and the shoe’s 30th anniversary, Nike’s VaporMax Flyknit was a radical approach to the iconic Air cushioning system. New technologies have since enabled designers to incorporate the Air and exterior into one holistic unit, instead of using a rubber layer for protection. The result is a rather alien-looking shoe with a base full of air pockets.
Inspired by the colours that befall the sky — twilight, sunset and everything in between — the collection sees the season’s (and street’s) most sought-after air-filled sneakers now in white, blue, pink and navy colourways. Like the sneakers, Nike’s Sport Bands are also lightweight and well-ventilated, thanks to the special perforated fluoroeslatomer material.
The four new Nike Sport Bands will launch in tandem with the VaporMax Flyknit sneakers on June 1, with each band retailing at the usual US$49 (S$67) at Nike’s online and retail stores. Apple will offer the selection come early June.
