Bell & Ross is dead serious about functionality, so much so that while everyone else has made it their mission to conquer time-keeping in the day, the French firm has gone to extreme lengths in ensuring their watches perform just as well after sundown.
The latest to join this conquest is the BR03-92 Grey LUM, and it joins the BR03‐94 HOROLUM, BR03‐92 NIGHTLUM and, more recently, the BR03‐92 FULL LUM in celebrating the brand’s flair for unfaltering legibility.
Named after “lumiere”, or French for light, the BR03-92 Grey LUM follows the same ethos thanks to the Super-LumiNova® C3 treatment, which not only glows brightly at night but also provides optimum readability during the day. While the previous three models took on a more military aesthetic with their matte finishings, the GREY LUM boldly takes on the brand’s new appeal to the urban explorers of today with its polished yet industrial design.
Still, the watch is recognisably Bell & Ross, paying homage to the brand’s aviation roots with its iconic “circle within a square” shape. An anthracite grey dial takes centre stage here, and provides not only the perfect backdrop for the bold, Super-LumiNova filled numerals, indices, and hands in the absence of light, but also brings to mind runway markings. In adding a sense of dimensionality and an element of luxury to the watch, the timepiece also incorporates a sunray pattern on the dial, a satin-polished steel case, and polished bevels, making it a sporty-chic staple for the wrist.
Inside, this quiet sophistication makes way for precision and robustness with the automatic calibre BR‐CAL.302, with a healthy power reserve of 42 hours and a 100m water-resistance. The watch’s masculinity is then sealed with a matching grey-green velvet calfskin strap, but also comes with the option of an ultra-resilient fabric option with black Velcro to ensure durability and wearability in any situation, at any time of the day.
