Weather the coming storms in the Céline Winter 17 collection

As we brace ourselves for the annual torrent of monsoons and erratic weather patterns (as well as the upcoming holiday season), Céline’s creative director Phoebe Philo is holding her ground. Her latest Céline Winter 17 collection proves that it is easy and effortless to stay chic and work-ready, without letting the gloom of winter get under your skin.

There was a clear theme of urbanity that Philo put on the racks of the French fashion house, which she has helmed for the past nine years. With an assortment of oversized jackets and boxy pantsuits, the Céline woman this season is practical and purpose-driven, but whimsical enough to jazz up her attire with subtly playful accessories.

The long, fluid silhouettes seen on the dresses and trousers are made possible with the use of lighter fabrics like viscose and mohair. A more muted colour palate has also been applied across the collection, with bases of black, cream, and bronze accented with feminine prints and patterns, and complemented with a new line of accessories like the literal Big Bag and alphabetical pendants. Cheeky wool blankets “advertising” food products like bangers and mash, and sticky toffee pudding, also give the impression of seeking warmth and comfort in a cozy nook.

Here, we’ve picked our 5 favourite trends from Céline’s Winter 17 collection that we feel brings out the best in the cosmopolitan female, while keeping her warm in the cold.
