March has only just begun but it looks like sneakerheads are going to be busy.

Some of the month’s highlights have started this week, in fact, thanks to two of streetwear’s biggest darlings. Supreme and Palace are dropping their Spring/Summer 2021 collection early and with it, some of the most covetable sneakers for the first half of the year. 

Nike also manages to hold the fleeting attention of hypebeasts worldwide with a number of notable drops, including of course, a pair of Jordans in a rather emblematic colourway, as well as Air Maxes that are inspired by a breakfast staple. None though have made our jaws drop as low as Adidas’ latest collaboration. 

Here are all the sneakers you’ll want to be seen in this month. 

Air Jordan 1 High OG ‘University Blue’

The Jumpman continues his reign in the sneaker scene this spring. This time, however, the sportswear giant pays homage to the famous basketball player by diving deeper into the life of the legend to also pull inspiration from his alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “University Blue” is a reference to the school’s colours and has graced a number of other collectable Air Jordans in the past too. The OG silhouette here is met with a white leather upper that’s contrasted with suede overlays and black Jordan and Nike motifs.

Palace Stan Smiths

No stranger to collaborations, Palace is now putting its stamp on one of the most iconic white sneakers of all time: The Stan Smith. Two versions will be offered alongside the skateboarding brand’s fourth Spring 2021 drop, one in multi-coloured pastel and the other in OG Adidas green and white. The latter is accented by a pink sock-lining, off-white toe and footbeds, and a silver tongue. Both, however, will see a perforated “P” in place of the original dotted three stripes.

Dropping on Palace’s website at 7pm (SGT) on 5 March, and online at 11am (JST) in Japan and WeChat in China on 6 March.

Nike Air Max 90 “Bacon” Re-release

Who thought your breakfast could inspire your next sneakers? Originally launched in 2004 as a collaboration between Nike and New York City boutique Dave’s Quality Meat, this pair became one of the most collectable and iconic Air Max 90s ever, sporting colours of the heart-clogging strip within its panels. Nike will reissue this famous pair on 26 March as part of its Air Max Day celebrations on Nike SNKRS.

Supreme x Nike SB Dunk Low SS21

Available in four colourways — Black, Mean Green, Hyper Blue, and Barkroot Brown — Supreme turns the heat up on the SB Dunk Low with debossed faux crocodile skin and metallic gold stars over a premium white leather base. These kicks also sport co-branded signatures throughout, from the lace dubraes to the printed insoles.

Dropping on Supreme’s website at 12am (SGT) on 5 March, and 11am (JST) in Japan (although your best bet would be resellers).

ASICS GEL-Lyte III “Back Streets of Japan” Pack

Inspired by Japan’s bustling Tokyo streets and her subdued natural beauty, these two sneakers pay homage to the brand’s birthplace with both brighter pastel palettes on one, and earthy tones on the other. The GEL-Lyte III continues its unorthodox split tongue set-up and GEL® technology cushioning unit in the heel for ultimate comfort.

Givenchy Giv 1

It didn’t take long for American designer Matthew M Williams — best known for his other label 1017 Alyx 9SM — to inject his visionary touch into the Parisian fashion house. The Giv 1 are high-performance sneakers that combine luxuriously supple calfskin leather with canvas and mesh, and a translucent yellow sole for a futuristic touch. The same attention to details continues below, with an underfoot tread that’s made out of mini Givenchy 4G emblems.

TOMM¥ €A$H x Adidas Originals Superstar

Is the sky the limit when it comes to designing sneakers? Not if your stage name has three different currencies in it. Estonian rapper TOMM¥ €A$H’s inaugural collaboration with the sportswear giant sees the world’s longest pair of Superstars, complete with its iconic shell toe and the famous three stripes. The dual-coloured pair will likely not fit true-to-size, but we dare say it’ll be pretty useful for social distancing.

Nice Kicks x Adidas Ultra4D “Have a Nice Day”

Following a very psychedelic “The Encore” in 2019, Texas-based Nice Kicks continues its tie-dye streak with Adidas for “Have a Nice Day”, only this time in black and white. The distinctive spiral style is printed into the Primeknit upper, which sits atop a 4D-printed midsole made from liquid resin, light and oxygen.

Nike Dunk Low SP “City Market”

Besides references to Blue Ribbon Sports — which has been a part of Nike’s roots since 1967 — these sneakers are an eclectic vision thanks to its mixed-material upper, courtesy of industrial rice and coffee bags that are found at urban markets. Look closely and you’ll notice the tag on its tongue mimics a nutrition facts label, while also sporting a translucent zippered pocket that references reusable grocery totes. Of course, the whole idea of sustainability is rounded off with a very cheerful (or passive-aggressive) “Thank You for Caring!” graphic on the insole.

Reebok x Maison Margiela Classic Tabi Leather Sneakers

Both era-defining icons, the Tabi and Reebok’s Classic Leather have come together to create a street version of the famous Margiela shoes. Besides its split-toe makeover, the sneakers (in both white and black) are defined by their nappa leather uppers and an EVA sole and are a masterclass on how sport and fashion can defy convention to create something beautiful together.
