Your vacation plans may be on hold, but nothing’s stopping you from getting into a summer state of mind.

Our favourite fashion brands are certainly getting us there with their breeziest collections of the year. You don’t have to hit the beach to appreciate the array of casual tees and shorts, cut from the softest and airiest cotton fabrics, that have just been launched.

The approaching balmy season also calls for comfortable shoes to slip into, and the likes of Dior Men and Gucci have plenty of espadrilles and sandals crafted from natural fibres that fit the bill. This year’s summer capsules are also filled with splashes of colour, be it through the watercolour-inspired prints seen on Louis Vuitton’s new bags, or the psychedelic patterns adorning Dries Van Noten’s relaxed shirts and shorts.

It may be a while before we can fully take on that carefree attitude so tied to the summer, what with the new social-distancing measures in place, but there is still some joy to be had in wearing such fuss-free, vibrant pieces. Not to mention that they are practically perfect for a tropical country like Singapore, regardless of what season it really is.

Read on to discover the best summer collections to shop now.

Loewe x Paula’s Ibiza

If summer could be captured in a capsule, it would look like the Loewe x Paula’s Ibiza collaboration. This year’s edition includes bags and shoes that resemble pineapples, watermelons and other such tropical fruits; an array of beach-ready clothing that are covered in vibrant parrot prints, mystical moon phases or sunset-inspired gradients; and beautiful straw bags, such as the new Anagram Basket bag, that are both ethically and sustainably made. Given that designer Jonathan Anderson was thinking of “summer in the city” and bringing “the carefree spirit of seaside” into the everyday, the collection couldn’t be a better fit for those of us living in Singapore.

Louis Vuitton

If you’ll be spending a lot of time poolside, then you’ll find everything you need in Louis Vuitton’s summer offerings for him and her. The women’s collection comes with sunbathing essentials like monogrammed swimsuits, bikinis, sarong and shirts, dip dyed in “Malibu sunrise yellows” and “Riviera blues”. And there are the bags to match, such as the Louis Vuitton Twist, the Capucines handbag, the NéoNoé bucket and the OnTheGo tote, which now come in gradient leathers and flower charms. For him, Virgil Abloh has designed a line of Hawaiian shorts, cotton shirts and pyjama sets that sport a watercolour-style take on Louis Vuitton’s monogram. The painterly treatment was also applied to sneakers, bucket hats and pool slides, which you can pack in the new Keepall Bandoulière 50 in striped Japanese denim.

Dries Van Noten x Mr Porter

For the first time, Belgian designer Dries Van Noten has teamed up with Mr Porter for a limited-edition menswear capsule. It’s inspired by “dream-like summer days, travel and escapism”, which translates into breezy cotton-jersey tees, boxy shirts with psychedelic prints, and drawstring shorts to match. Lightweight fabrics and relaxed silhouettes aside, what stands out from the collection is Dries’ masterly use of colours, which adds a dose of joy to each piece. “It’s designed with good times in mind,” said the designer, and he definitely nailed it.

Gucci

Speaking of colours, Gucci has unleashed a whole rainbow of them for its new GG Multicolour capsule. Comprising jackets, bucket hats, shorts, sneakers and espadrilles, the collection stands out with its colour-blocked GG rhombi pattern. Bright hues like light blue, pink and green stand out even more across the line-up of GG Marmont shoulder bags, which have been specially crafted from mattelassé canvas. And the next time you check into a hotel for a staycation, be sure to take one of Gucci’s boldly striped totes or duffle bags with you — there’ll be zero chances of losing sight of them.

Shop the collection at Gucci, #01-38/39, Paragon, 290 Orchard Road, Singapore 238859.

Dior Men

Dior Men’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection has dropped, and with it so has its new Beachwear capsule. The latter continues the brand’s collaboration with American pop artist Kenny Scharf, whose vivid “Viva Mare Viva Mar” painting now appears across a silk shirt, swimsuit and bandana. The rest of the capsule takes cues from the ’60s and ’70s, reviving retro-style tees, polo shirts and bathrobes in Dior Oblique jacquard that you’ll want to lounge about in. To complete the look, there’s also a panama hat made of raffia, as well as the new Dior Atlas sandals and Dior Paradise espadrilles featuring rope-braided soles.

Shop the collection at Dior Men, #01-25, ION Orchard, 2 Orchard Turn Singapore 238801.

Off-White

Off-White has dropped an exclusive capsule at its Marina Bay Sands flagship so even hypebeasts have something to show off this summer. Dubbed “Pool”, the collection features unisex T-shirts and bucket hats with the Off-White logo, remixed with a collage of Marina Bay Sands’ infinity pool, Gardens By The Bay and other local landmarks. If you happen to be one of the first 100 shoppers, you’ll receive a print of that collage with your purchase. Alternatively, you can customise your new tee with a classic Virgil Abloh phrase through the embroidery service, available in-store until Friday, 7 May.

Shop the collection at Off-White, #B1-128, Galleria Level, The Shoppes @ Marina Bay Sands on 2 Bayfront Avenue.
