While Spring 2017 sees pretty florals, sailor-inspired prints, and sorbet shades combined with nudes on the runway, Coach has something quite different up its leather-studded sleeves. For the brand’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection, creative director Stuart Vevers has dreamt up a rock ‘n’ roll nirvana to celebrate rebels, beatniks and dreamers.
Named after the year the brand was founded, Coach 1941 sees embroidered varsity jackets reminiscent of the vintage collegiate style, Elvis Presley graphics that pay homage to classic Americana and the rebellious spirit of ‘50s rock ’n’ roll, and chunky creeper boots and moccasins — a shoe silhouette inspired by the toughness of New York City.
The fashion-forward biker chick will fall head over heels in love with Vevers’ iconic shearling coats and leather jackets, which are adorned with demure embellishments such as baby pink hues, and floral and songbird appliqués. Similarly, varsity leather jackets, distressed printed t-shirts and studded boots dominate the men’s collection. Even Rexy, the brand’s famous dino, has been given a rocking makeover.
So let’s put Blue Suede Shoes on our vinyl players, get the leather on, and check out some of the best pieces from the Coach 1941 collection.
