They look like a cross between Yeezy slides and Birkenstocks, but the shoes of the summer are all Givenchy.

We’re talking about the new Marshmallow sandals, one of the many intriguing shoes offered by designer Matthew M. Williams for his Givenchy debut in Spring/Summer 2021. The unisex rubber sandals get their name from their most distinctive feature: stacked soles that will make you feel like you’re walking on clouds. Throw in cushioning straps and ergonomically-moulded footbeds, and you have comfy footwear par excellence.

Yet the Marshmallow sandals are suited for more than just loungewear staples or whatever you may throw on for a grocery run. The monochrome, minimalist shoes are sure to make a statement out in the wild with their sculptural silhouettes. Some of the most stylish celebrities have already proven as much.

Rapper Travis Scott, who’s perhaps the single biggest influence on the world of men’s shoes today, wore the Marshmallows with a pair of leather pants. Actress Zendaya wore the chunkier, women’s wedge version with a tailored ensemble, complete with a pair of socks. If that doesn’t capture the informal tone that office dressing has taken on, we don’t know what does. The Marshmallow sandals can even be the perfect shoes to party in, if this look modelled by Kaia Gerber is anything to go by.

In fact, there are as many ways to wear the Givenchy Marshmallow sandals as there are variations of the shoes. Whether you’re going for the open-toe slides or the covered-up wedges, discover how you can work the shoes into your look below.

If you’re getting the sandals in this colour, be sure to stick to similarly earthy hues for the rest of your outfit so they don’t stick out like a sore thumb — unless you want them to, of course.

This neutral sand hue is one of the Marshmallow’s bestselling colours, and it’s easy to see why. The versatile hue works well with earthy knits and good old denim, both of which you’ll be wearing this season. Pack these slides in your basket bag for your next trip to the beach.

One of the ways that Givenchy models were styled in the Marshmallow sandals was with a slinky, open-back dress — the kind that was seen on Kim Kardashian. It’s a very ’90s silhouette, and one that you, too, can pay homage to with this Christopher John Rogers striped dress. Like the Givenchy one, it features a skin-baring cutout at the back, but it’s a lot more of fun with its rainbow of colours.
