In 2014, Anya Hindmarch captivated us with a stunning show filled with models floating around planets, bringing its audience into an intergalactic space experience. This year, she’s taking us on a trip back in time where arcades were our hipster cafes, to the era of joysticks and video games.
Founded in 1987 when she was just 19 years old, Anya Hindmarch has grown her company into a global brand with over 45 stores worldwide. She is famous for creating show-stopping fashion runways, often focusing on creating an out-of-this-world experience for her audience.
Embracing the digital age with her latest collection, models walked down a giant Rubik’s cube-inspired stage built with giant light-up cubes. Audiences were greeted with video-game sound effects, as stacks of cubes moved forward while the clothes were put on show.
Hindmarch’s inspiration came from her fascination with early 8-bit graphics and pioneering arcade games. The playful and multicoloured show featured heat-bonded motifs from her wildly successful sticker collection. During the show, a sign read, “Do computers dream when they sleep?” a question Hindmarch posed to herself as inspiration, during the making of this collection.
We are absolutely in love with each and every one of these Pacman ghosts coats and prismatic totes. From smooth leather to furry and cosy mink, these pieces take comfortable fashion to a whole new level.
Hindmarch experimented and explored each design with different innovative techniques, including leather marquetry and heat-fusing. Her stickers this collection also featured her obsession with arcade games, with cartoon bombs and “Talk nerdy to me” speech bubbles.
