We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: The fanny pack revival is happening. Sported by our favourite street style doyennes — Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, A$AP Rocky — and spotted on the most seminal runways like Gucci to Louis Vuitton, the noughties’ tourist staple is the hottest accessory of the season. Now in comes Prada, with its fanny pack remix of the Nylon Vela.
When Miuccia Prada inherited the namesake brand in 1979, she introduced a series of backpacks made of pocono nylon, a material used for military tents, which also happens to be the fabrication her grandfather opted for to make his original line of Prada steamer trunks. Durable, weather-proof, and utilitarian-cool, the nylon backpacks easily rose to stratospheric heights of popularity in the mid ’80s.
The Nylon Vela range has expanded throughout the decades: Totes, messengers, sling-ons — you name it. And with 2017’s rising demand for bumbags, Prada has come up with ample supply to satiate our unexplainable need for the too-school-for-cool bag too.
Head down to Ion Orchard’s atrium and pay a visit to Prada Nylon Vela’s pop-up. From fanny packs to the trademark backpack reinvented with details like leather Saffiano strips or covered in prints dissected from the house’s archives, we swear, you’ll feel like a kid in a candy store.
The Prada Nylon Vela pop-up runs till 30 November at Ion Orchard, Level 1 Atrium.
