What is November if not a prelude to the Christmas craze of December?
Before the holiday season rolls around, you could get a head start in your gift shopping. The best part is that there are already plenty of stylish presents to spoil your loved ones with, all launching this month.
Jil Sander’s long-awaited Uniqlo capsule collection is great if your other half fancies an elegant, no-nonsense approach to their clothing. For your dear mother, perhaps a new designer handbag? Both Burberry and Celine have tempting options. And for the kids, Gucci’s collaboration with Disney is always a safe bet.
There’s a lot more of chic, Christmas cheer to go around — just see below to discover what else is new this month. You might even find something to add to your own wish list.
If there was an award for Most British Accessory, Burberry’s new Olympia bag would win it easily. The shoulder bag takes its shape and name from the Olympia London, the vast, arched hall where Burberry held its Fall/Winter 2020 show. Creative director Riccardo Tisci introduced the bag in smooth Italian-tanned leather of various colours, but nothing captures the brand’s heritage quite like the knitted tartan design that Kendall Jenner wore on the runway. The Olympia works just as well off the runway as an everyday bag, conveniently fitted with slip and zipped pockets.
The Burberry Olympia bag (from S$2,190) is available in Burberry stores and on burberry.com.
If you didn’t know that Donald Duck had triplet nephews, Gucci is about to change that. The Italian brand has teamed up yet again with Disney, this time using Mickey Mouse’s beaked buddy as a motif across bags, luggage, shoes, and casual clothing for men and women. Even his adorable nephews make an appearance in a print that Gucci borrowed from vintage Walt Disney Mickey Mouse comics. If this is all speaking to your inner child, you’ll be spoiled for choice from the range of Gucci x Disney offerings.
The Gucci x Disney collection is now available in Gucci stores.
Hedi Slimane’s Celine women march to the beat of their own drum, and it’s only fitting that the designer has introduced a bag inspired by one this season. The Tambour, as it’s called, draws from the instrument of the same name. Music history buffs will recognise it as a part of French Old Guard’s ensemble, but K-Pop fans will know it as The Bag That Lisa Carried. The Blackpink member did indeed show off the Tambour in Celine’s Triomphe canvas and tan leather (S$3,600), but you can also opt for an all-leather version (S$4,100). And if you love a good basket bag, the Tambour also comes in braided façon raffia and leather (S$4,100).
The Celine Tambour bag (from S$3,600) is available in Celine stores and on celine.com.
From Chanel’s AirPod cases to Burberry’s crossbody bags for iPhones, fashion has made it pretty clear that fancy tech accessories are in. Fendi is the latest to jump on the trend through its collaboration with Chaos, a London label that Karl Lagerfeld was a big fan of. If you’re looking for gold cases for your AirPods (S$1,050) and Apple Watch (S$950), or an iPhone pouch ($1,600) that passes for a handbag, or even a mink leather laptop case, you’ll find them all in the Fendi x Chaos collection. There are also luxe knick-knacks you wouldn’t have thought of, such as a lighter holder (S$950) and a leather charm that carries up to four shot glasses (S$1,050). Hey, you never know when you might need them.
The Fendi x Chaos collection is now available in Fendi stores.
Jil Sander x Uniqlo
Jil Sander (the designer, not the brand) has finally returned to her collaboration with Uniqlo, giving minimalists everywhere something to be happy about. Her new +J collection for men and women has all the clothes you would ever really need, from crisp cotton shirts to snug sweaters in fine cashmere and merino wool. Tailoring is also a big part of the collection, and you’ll find pared-back jackets with smart wool pants to match. As is Sander’s signature, the pieces are all proportioned to perfection, including the down jackets and parkas. The designer described her collection best, saying, “I set out to define the global modern uniform with this in mind: Clothes should be long-lasting and enduring.”
The +J collection will be available at the Uniqlo Orchard Central store and on uniqlo.com from 20 November.
