Is a Vetements product truly Vetements, if it doesn’t induce wonder and confusion in you? This question defines the effect that the too-cool-for-you label has on consumers, and it doesn’t seem to be ceasing anytime soon. Take its latest release, for example.
The Vetements x Manolo Blahnik shoes first appeared on the brand’s SS’17 runway. It was a showcase that saw the former label collaborating with 18 other labels, including some that were blacklisted as painfully passé (remember Juicy Couture?).
Creative director Demna Gvasalia also enlisted the help of Manolo Blahnik to create two types of heeled shoes — silk pumps and thigh high boots. Unlike the pumps, which have pretty much flown under the radar, the release of the satin boots have warranted a lot of attention. Just look at them.
We get that thigh high boots are a trend, but this metallic rendition takes it to an absurd level. There are so many questions. How does one go to the washroom? Do you wear pants with them? Would you look chic on the surface, but have to deal with your thighs becoming a sweaty, chafing mess beneath the zipper? How do you find socks long enough? Are they really worth S$5580?
If none of those questions deter you, you can get your hands on a pair of Vetements x Manolo Blahnik boots here.
