Uniqlo U is the rare fashion line that checks all the boxes: comfort, functionality and timelessness.
That’s thanks to the design ethos of Christoph Lemaire, who helms the seasonal line from the Japanese fashion giant. Through Uniqlo U, the French designer reinterprets simple and everyday clothing with thoughtful details, and crafts them with Uniqlo’s own innovative fabrics.
It’s that same formula that you’ll find in the Uniqlo U collection for Fall/Winter 2020. From soft sweatshirts to elegant trousers, the new range for men and women offers us just what we need right now: elevated basics. This season, the clothes also come in warm, autumnal shades like brown, orange and maroon to cozy up to, along with neutral hues thrown in for good measure.
As with every Uniqlo U collection, though, the problem is choosing which of the perfect pieces to get. Below, we’ve narrowed down eight must-haves to start off with — but we won’t blame you for getting them in all their colours, either.

Here’s a piece worth having in the cooler weeks ahead. While it’s comfortable enough to wear at home, this women’s mock neck T-shirt is made of stretch jersey with a glossy sheen that makes it sophisticated enough to head out to town in.

If you’d really like to keep warm, you can’t go wrong with fine Merino wool. This beige knit sweater for women comes with a ribbed texture and fits snugly so you won’t go cold. It’s perfect to wear to the office with a pair of wide-leg pants (like the one below).

These women’s pants come with a very seventies wide leg, but rest assured you won’t look stuck in the past wearing them. They’re cut from light, airy twill fabric that is wrinkle-resistant, making the pair both effortless to wear and care for.

By now, your wardrobe would be full of loungewear essentials, from hoodies to sweatshirts. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to add these sweatpants to your collection — especially since they’re elegantly cut from incredibly soft French terry fabric.

This men’s sweater is yet another Merino wool marvel from the Uniqlo U collection. It’s been refined to look less fluffy, and it’ll tuck smoothly into a pair of smart trousers. Sporting a loose fit, the sweater will go just as well with a pair of jeans.

Speaking of jeans, of course Uniqlo has also designed the perfect pair for men. These feature a straight cut and a subtle, selvedge hem, which altogether elongates the legs. They also come in a classic navy colour that goes with just about anything.

If there’s a Uniqlo design that is universally appreciated, it’s the oversized men’s boxy tee. Lemaire clearly didn’t want to mess with a good thing, so he tweaked the cult product only a little. The difference? This version comes with Uniqlo’s cooling AIRism technology, so they’ll be even more comfortable to wear in country as humid as Singapore.

There may not be many occasions to suit up for right now, but a well-made jacket is still a staple worth owning. This timeless men’s design takes all the fussiness out of the formal piece, and instead gives it a relaxed look that doesn’t skimp on elegance. Plus, it’s wrinkle-resistant, so that’s another thing you won’t have to worry about.
