Be it vintage apparel, historical cafés or heritage jewellers, there’s always something so fascinating about brands that take us back to the days of yore. Despite the passing fads and fancies that dominate this era of social media — where everyone is constantly on the lookout for what’s new and trending — these establishments have remained steadfast to their signature style.

Even in Singapore, a young nation at only 51 years old, we have a number of old-school local jewellers dating back to as early as 1919. Offering timeless designs that are as (or even more) elegant than their younger counterparts’, these 5 iconic labels are testament to the saying “old is gold”.

1
Foundation Jewellers

Founded in 1976, this homegrown jeweller specialises in Peranakan-inspired designs. Many of its jewels are fashioned in gold and festooned with gemstones such as diamonds, pink sapphires and emeralds. Foundation Jewellers’ creations have even been favoured by famous names the likes of Queen Elizabeth II, who received one of its diamond brooches as a gift from Singapore President Tony Tan in 2012, and has been spotted wearing it on multiple occasions.
