Met Gala 2018: The most resplendent jewellery looks that we loved

One can always count on the annual Met Gala to be a showcase of the most astonishing, opulent and sometimes controversial celebrity looks. Since the ’70s, each edition of the fundraiser has carried a theme based on that year’s Costume Institute exhibition, which offers much bandwidth for attendees to get creative with their dressing.

For 2018, the theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination — prompting many of Tinseltown’s brightest stars to turn up in ensembles inspired by or incorporated with religious imagery the likes of crucifixes, halos and angel wings. These were, of course, accentuated with equally splendid jewels that ranged from flashy crowns to intricate headpieces and elegant brooches. Scroll down for our guide to the most impressive and absolutely divine jewellery looks at the Met Gala 2018.

Lily Collins

Dressed in Givenchy, Lily Collins looked every bit the goth queen with her custom-made Clare Waight Keller crown and Cartier jewellery, which included a pair of 1929 Cartier Collection white gold earrings bedecked with silver and black onyx. As a finishing touch, she brought along a string of rosary beads.

Chadwick Boseman

Black Panther’s Chadwick Boseman looked regal (and almost priestly) in his Versace suit and cape matched with an array of Bulgari B.Zero1 yellow gold rings.

Kendall Jenner

Looking chic in a Virgil Abloh jumpsuit, Kendall Jenner completed her ensemble with cascading platinum and diamond earrings from Tiffany & Co’s new Tiffany Paper Flower collection.

Met Gala co-chair Rihanna was easily the best dressed on the red carpet with her elaborate Maison Margiela Pope-inspired outfit encrusted with numerous gemstones and crystals. She added on more bling in the form of a breathtaking 1934 Cartier Collection pendant crafted in gold and festooned with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emerald, pearl, moonstones and opal.

Daniel Kaluuya

Not to be outdone by his Black Panther co-star Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Kaluuya eschewed the dress code in favour of a dapper blue Prada suit complemented with a David Yurman ring, bracelets from Jason of Beverly Hills, and Mont Blanc cufflinks.

Mindy Kaling

Headpieces and crowns were aplenty on the red carpet, but one that definitely left an impression was the massive golden Pericles Kondylatos crown perched on Mindy Kaling’s head. She paired it with Fred Leighton diamond earrings and a Disney princess-esque Vassilis Zoulias white dress and dark blue gloves.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively made quite the entrance in a glorious custom-made, halo-shaped Lorraine Schwartz headpiece mounted with over a hundred carats of champagne diamonds and Colombian emeralds. She paired it with diamond dagger earrings, ruby rings, and her own engagement ring — all designed by Schwartz.

Kerry Washington

The pièce de résistance of Kerry Washington’s Met Gala look was undisputedly her golden Lorraine Schwartz headpiece composed of delicate flower motifs dusted with glittering diamonds. She also wore diamond rings designed by Schwartz, and a shimmery Ralph Lauren gown.

Alexander Skarsgard

Alexander Skarsgard may have played it safe with a black tuxedo, but we like how he added a pop of colour with a 1927 Cartier Collection platinum brooch embellished with diamonds, cabochon-cut emeralds, and black onyx.

Lily Aldridge

Why wear just one necklace, when you can have three? Lily Aldridge loaded up on her bling with a trifecta of Bulgari creations: A High Jewelry necklace featuring a hexagonal emerald and diamond pendant, a Giardini High Jewelry white gold necklace with emeralds and diamonds, and a High Jewelry platinum necklace with emeralds, diamonds and pearls.
