First to be unveiled is a haute joaillerie line inspired by the songstress’ hometown of Barbados, a culture-rich place known for its lush gardens and vibrant carnivals. It will make its official debut in May, in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. This also marks Chopard’s 20th year as the official partner of the annual event.
Highlights include diamond-encrusted ear clips set in 18k Fairmined white gold, a watch festooned with 30.76 carats of sparklers, and a spectacular pair of chandelier earrings adorned with floral motifs. The latter is a show-stopping display of colours, with its cascade of blue, pink and yellow sapphires, tsavorites, rubellites, green beryls, aquamarines, Paraiba tourmalines, rubies, amethysts, topazes, lazulites and diamonds.
The news of this collaboration, isn’t exactly a big surprise, though. Both Chopard and Rihanna have been dropping hints about it in the lead up to today’s announcement. Over the past week, the Swiss maison’s Instagram page has been peppered with images of the singer and her favoured jewels, while RiRi herself graced the March 2017 cover of Harper’s Bazaar in a pair of transformable diamond earrings from the collection.
The other Rihanna Loves Chopard range is equally stunning. Focusing on fine jewellery, the limited edition nine-piece capsule collection features minimalist, geometric designs crafted with sharp and clean lines. A recurring motif is Chopard’s signature Ice Cube shape, which is incorporated into rings, bangles and necklaces, and paired with materials such as coloured ceramic.
A standout is this simple but chic necklace, which combines two linear rectangular motifs fashioned in rose gold cubes and Jungle Green ceramic blocks. A diamond-studded rendition is also available.
The fine jewellery line will be available in June, but pre-orders begin today at Chopard’s website and boutiques.
“Rihanna and I collaborated closely on the collections, so you can feel her unstoppable energy, strong creativity, and inherent sense of design in every piece,” said Chopard’s co-president and creative director Caroline Scheufele. “With her unique style, she redefines the way people see and wear jewellery.”
