Besides being one of the world’s top athletes, Serena Williams has shown that she’s as adept in making equally powerful statements in the fashion department. From playing tennis in a black tutu to show-stopping looks at the recent New York Fashion Week, Williams has been on the steady path to becoming a fashion icon and hero.
Now, the tennis legend is making her mark on the fashion world in the precious jewellery department. Earlier this week the multi-hyphenate unveiled her first-ever jewellery collection, Serena Williams Jewelry, in ethically-sourced gemstones and gold.
The collection, Williams explains, “is a beautiful celebration of strong women in my life and around the world.” That’s reflected in ‘aspirational pieces’ in the form of ID tags and necklaces with empowering words bedecked in diamonds.
But it is also a particularly personal collection for her too. The heart motif is Williams’ signature, having always worn a heart-shaped pendant to every tennis match. Here, the motif is presented in an elongated form with clusters of round diamonds.
Naturally, Williams also pays homage to the classic tennis bracelet with a simple twist. Instead of a tight chain of diamonds, Williams goes for a more spaced out assembly of gemstones to be linked with a diamond-accented clasp.
The collection weaves in other trendy motifs and styles like shooting stars, crescent moons, signet rings and dog tags — certainly appealing to a millennial crowd. Still, Williams offers designs that even a serious jewellery collector might find enticing too. Take for instance the popular Cuban link necklaces and bracelets, which the designer reinterprets as chains dripping in diamonds.
Serena Williams Jewelry is currently available on selected online stores — thankfully, with global shipping available. Just in time for Christmas shopping, we think.
