If there’s ever been a better time to show mom your appreciation for her, it’s now.
Whether you’re homebound with your leading lady or live miles away from her, we’re pretty sure that no one else has showered you with as much care and concern during these dark times as she has.
So what better way to thank her for all her hard work over the past few months (and years) than with a timepiece that’s just as special as her on Mother’s Day. These new watches are all effortlessly sophisticated and feminine, while exuding an elegance that could only come from watches of such calibre. Plus they make an exceptional alternative to the usual flowers.
The Reverso has always been an icon of the La Grande Maison’s, but this year, the 20th-century design classic gets a little facelift in the form of fresh colours and more contemporary features.
The same Art Deco aesthetics are retained here, except the elongated case now sees two rows of grain-set diamonds that line the gadroons at the upper and lower edges of the case. A jolt of bold red adds a rich glow to this time-tested watch, achieved via multile layers of lacquer over a subtle sunray guilloche pattern. While plenty of Reverso watches flip over to reveal another dial, this one features a solid steel caseback — a blank canvas that allows you to personalise with a special engraving for mom.
The Pasha might have seen a number of incarnations over its lifetime, but its latest marks a faithful return to its 1985 introduction. This year, its 35mm version comes in steel or pink gold (a larger 41mm in yellow gold is also available), both of which make for sophisticated additions to mom’s collection.
While key features have been largely retained, new design elements like the Cartier’s QuickSwitch strap release system and SmartLink sizing systems make it so much easier for self-adjustments. There’s also a more discreet way of having it personalised; simply unscrew the chained crown cover to find a tiny space dedicated for engraved initials.
Franck Muller’s iconic Vanguard Lady makes a comeback this year, only this time it also cements the brand’s love for Asia with a region exclusive. This limited edition was undoubtedly made for the mom who appreciates a fair bit of bling, especially since its dial and case is fully encrusted with a total of 345 brilliant-cut diamonds and 114 sapphires.
Set in 18k rose gold or stainless steel finishing, the watch is not only a dramatic play on light but also a testament to Franck Muller’s aptitude in gemology and craftsmanship. Only 64 pieces will be produced for Asia, making it an exclusive truly worthy of the leading lady of your life.
At 39.4mm, the Glashütte Original PanoMatic Luna is admittedly a little big on a women’s wrist, but this was made for the mom who’s equal parts bold and feminine. Inspired by colours and symbols of love, this limited edition of 25 pieces sees a stainless steel case with a diamond-encrusted bezel that frames the mother-of-pearl dial.
Diamond-set indexes are accompanied by lilac Arabic numerals in varying sizes, while subdials indicate the hours, minutes, and seconds. At the watch’s two o’clock, an elegant moonphase indicator features silvered moons that have been polished with a diamond milling tool for extra sparkle.
Inspired by the lunar rainbow, this slim tourbillon is nothing short of stellar, starting with its show-stopping rainbow bezel. Here, a precious combination of blue, orange, pink, and yellow sapphires surround an aventurine dial, alongside other gems like rubies, tsavorites, and amethyst.
As a unisex piece, this watch measures at 40.2mm, but the thin PF517 movement which houses the flying tourbillon keeps it slim and wearable, even on the most slender of wrists.
Chanel’s list of icons is as extensive as it gets but the J12 holds a special place in the maison’s heart for good reason. Now in its 20th year, the sporty, monochromatic timepiece has seen not only a makeover but also special releases that pay tribute to the house’s famous aesthetic codes.
Fashioned from ceramic, the J12 Paradoxe features a contrasting and asymmetric colour scheme that dominates the dial and case. The fusion of two different coloured ceramics is one that’s extremely complex and lends an eccentricity that’s hard to come by today, perfect for the offbeat mom who’s always up for taking the path less trodden.
