Tropical Fire Dance, Bali

There’s no better place to catch your last sunset than on the Island of Gods. Potato Head, Bali’s famed beach club, is known for hosting one of the best New Year’s Eve parties in South East Asia. This year’s instalment sees Rudimental, a bass and drum act from the UK, headlining the event as we count down to 2017. Other acts include Potato Head’s resident DJs Marc Roberts, Paul T and Dean Dixon.

The event starts at 4.30pm with a thrilling sunset fire dance to mark the last Sun Down Circle session of the year. The beach club is then transformed into a tropical futuristic psychedelic world to welcome in the new year.

Admission is S$170 per person.

Réveillon, Brazil

The world’s largest (and arguably wildest) New Year’s Eve celebration takes place on Rio’s famous Copacabana Beach. Réveillon is a Brazilian celebration that is a unique blend of religious, traditional and superstitious beliefs. With giant stages set up along the oceanfront, an array of drum-heavy music, extravagant Carnival-style costumes, traditional dance performances and fairground attractions, it’s hard to find a more lavish way to end the year.

Revellers dress in white (believed to bring good luck for the new year), drink champagne, toss handfuls of flowers into the ocean as a gift, and dance samba until the main event – where a procession of boats set off fireworks over the ocean.
