The Island of Gods has a unique allure not many destinations can match. With its rolling waves that go on for days, orange-hued skies at sunset, and picture-perfect rice paddy fields paired with rich Balinese culture, it truly is paradise on earth. It’s easily accessible too, being less than three hours away from Singapore.

Although Bali is already home to some of the most luxurious resorts in Southeast Asia, 2017 sees more resorts and villas opening up on the island — not that we are complaining. Operated by the likes of Singapore-based COMO Hotels and Resorts to Japanese luxury brand Hoshino Resorts, these new resort and hotel openings are giving visitors even more options for a relaxing beach vacation in Bali.

If you’re looking for off-the-beaten-track activities, which include visiting secret beaches and hidden waterfalls, check out our Bali guide courtesy of the island’s finest concierges. In the meantime, here are 5 Bali resorts and hotels that are opening, or have opened in 2017 — perfect for a getaway from the bustling city. Take the weekend off, and you’ll come back to work on Monday feeling completely energised, and ready to take on the week.

COMO Echo Beach

Opening: Third-quarter of 2017

Luxury group COMO Hotels and Resorts is opening a new hotel on the island, in addition to the existing COMO Shambala Estate and COMO Uma Ubud. Located on Echo Beach on the south coast of Bali which boasts a lesser-known surf scene, the property is the epitome of modern Asian architecture: Low-lying, sleek and contemporary.

Enjoy surf tuition, yoga and spa treatments at the new COMO Beach Club that forms the hub of the resort. Within close proximity is the Nirvana Bali Golf Club, which was designed by Australian professional golfer Greg Norman, and is one of the top 10 golf clubs in the world.

Capella Ubud

Opening: Late 2017

Capella finally takes on Bali, with its first property on the island nestled between Ubud’s rainforest, rice paddy fields and the sacred Wos River. The property consists of 22 luxury tents designed by celebrated architect Bensley, each with a private plunge pool.

The new resort’s design takes cues from European settlers’ homes in the 1800s, and is encompassed by lush rice paddy fields and forested terrain.

The property is enveloped by the rolling hills of Ubud and overlooks the Pakerisan river, with sacred water canals (recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Landscape) running through it.

The hotel’s 30 ryokan-style villas feature tatamis, shojis, and intricately carved walls, with each room opening up to a semi-private pool. Additionally, check out the resort’s most inviting space, Cafe Gazebo — which is perched on stilts above the green jungles.

Of course, the tropical paradise is not what it is without the many villas that line its coasts. Joining Villa Rose and The Pala is Villa Markisa, the newest of the Pandawa Estate properties. This five-bedroom villa is located on the white sands of Pandawa Beach, with an awe-inspiring view of its crystal clear, reef-protected waters.
