Central certainly doesn’t suffer from a lack of new openings, but there’s one property scheduled to open this summer that’s set to bring some much needed vibrancy and pizzazz to the quieter side of Queen’s Road Central. Mojo Nomad Central, the second of the spirited new range by Ovolo Hotels, is slated to open this August in a space currently occupied by the group’s existing Ovolo Noho, which will close this week.
The first property under the range is located in Aberdeen, and the new location aptly lies on the cusp between Central and Sheung Wan — areas brimming with restless creatives and digital nomads, both based in town and visiting Hong Kong.
Preliminary renderings of Mojo Nomad Central feature cheeky neon signage, plenty of bold, mix-and-match prints, stylish artwork and quirky, mismatched furniture: you can expect a buzzing atmosphere with plenty of opportunities for connecting with new people.
Dubbed as the first ‘micro-living’ concept of its kind in Asia, the Mojo Nomad brand is geared toward dynamic travellers who appreciate lively design, conviviality and warm hospitality. Following along the global trend of living within serviced, shared spaces, the hotel particularly emphasises the use of communal venues as a way to build a sense of community.
Private room types range from simply ‘S’ to ‘XL,’ while room-sharing options are also available for those who don’t mind meeting a new roomie during their travels, where each bed comes with individual televisions and bluetooth headphone compatibility.
On that note of catering to a generation of digital nomads, it was essential to make sure each room was well-equipped with USB and traditional plugs, as well as international adaptors, so that guests can plug in as needed for work or for play.
To fuel productive world travellers, the second floor will be a mixed-use space paired with a refreshments bar — perfect for meetings and daytime productivity alike, while the third floor also features a gym equipped with TRX harnesses, punching bags, yoga mats and more.
On the ground floor we can expect a brand new two-storey casual Mexican eatery, Te Quiero Mucho, or TQM for short. Rumoured to be bringing in a chef from Guadelajara, Mexico, you can expect the kitchen to serve up authentic flavours, with the menu made up of sharing platters of tacos and nachos. There’ll also be a bar connected to the hotel reception, and another bar on the first floor with a balcony space, serving up a range of artisanal tequilas and an eclectic list of margaritas.
Like Ovolo Southside’s wildly successful South American restaurant Komune, TQM will be Mojo Nomad’s main restaurant outlet, and we reckon it will be an equally attractive hangout for in-house and visiting guests in the neighbourhood.
Mojo Nomad Central is expected to soft open in August 2018, while the grand opening is slated for this autumn.
